I WOULD like to back up Michael Nugent’s letter to the editor in the June 18 edition of the Sentinel Times.
It is hard to imagine a more biased news article. Perversely it would have made a perfectible editorial.
I have no objection to the issue being raised but surely journalism 101 requires you to canvas different point of view.
As part of this discussion you might be interested in having a look at Newhaven College’s financial statement for 2023 (which is online).
These items in particular:
• Commonwealth government grants $12,388,414.
• State government grants $2,204,181.
• Other income $1,021,486.
• Total assets $44,766,351.
You say and in your response to Michael’s letter that the money to cover the proposed “tax” will have to come from somewhere.
Based on the above figures it appears that Newhaven College may have room to move in covering the increased costs.
Do you or any of your employees have any financial interest in this matter?
