IT WAS smiles all around from 25 Newhaven College students who competed in Round 4 of the Alpinestars School MTB series at the You Yangs MTB Park in Little River on Sunday, September 11.
With 200-plus students from various Victorian schools represented, the newly formed Newhaven College MTB team showed improvement across all participants on their second outing with Isabella Lynch coming third in the U13 female event, her first competition race.
Jack Wightman collected a 2nd in the U19 males and Kade Rigby backed up his third in Round 3 at the Haunted Hills event with a convincing first place win in the U19 males – a great effort all round.
Newhaven College student Kade Rigby said “the course was definitely faster than the last event”.
Newhaven College MTB coordinator Michael Wright was delighted with the team’s progress across the board.
“We are very proud of all our participants and love seeing the kids challenging themselves, encouraging each other and having a fun day out with their families,” said Mr Wright.
“We have had beautiful weather for both events and the You Yangs is such an awesome venue.”
Bass Coast College also enjoyed success with Evie Camenzull claiming a terrific second in the Under 17 girls.
The local mountain bike riders would love to see something similar in Bass Coast.
The final Round of the Alpinestars School MTB series will be held in Bendigo on Sunday 23 October.
