A SELECTION of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children’s books formed the inspiration for a NAIDOC Week themed puppet making session at Leongatha Library, parents and children enjoying being part of an indoor school holiday activity on a bleak Tuesday afternoon.
“The children will first have a look through the story books and try to find some characters that they want to recreate in their puppets,” library programs officer Kate Lochlin said ahead of the session.
An assortment of art materials enabled the young participants to show creative flair, with fabric paint, feathers, butterflies and ribbons among the selection.
Sentinel-Times chatted to children and parents, most of whom are regulars at Myli Libraries’ holiday activity sessions.
“They’re great,” local Donna Caneleo said, having booked ahead to ensure her sons Luca and Nico wouldn’t miss out, a wise decision given Tuesday’s session booked out.
Leongatha brothers Darcy, Ryder and Blake Cholmondeley came along, enjoying arts and crafts.
There will be a NAIDOC Story Time at Leongatha Library on Friday July 11 at 10.30am, Story Time sessions there having shifted from Thursdays.
