THE Wonthaggi streetscape transformation is well underway with the first of 24 modular planter boxes installed along McBride Avenue, and the first handful of crepe myrtle trees planted on Graham Street.
According to Bass Coast Shire Council, 'these projects will add shade, colour and life to the town centre while creating safer and more enjoyable spaces for people to gather, shop, dine and relax'.
Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Rochelle Halstead, said the projects mark an important step in delivering the vision for Wonthaggi as part of the Streetscapes Project.
“These projects are all about reimagining our town centre as a place that celebrates Wonthaggi’s character and heritage while creating spaces for people to enjoy,” Cr Halstead said.
“Thanks to the strong support of the Victorian Government, we’re able to deliver streetscapes that not only look fantastic but also support local businesses by encouraging outdoor dining and improving pedestrian safety. This is an exciting time for Wonthaggi.”
Contractors will maintain the plantings for the first year to ensure they thrive.
