HAVING lost the first quarter, Nyora was unable to catch up and endured a 50-point loss to Catani.

Playing at Nyora Recreation Reserve, a strong wind favoured one end of the ground – Catani’s end in the first quarter.

Catani capitalised and kicked six goals in the first term, leaving Nyora scoreless.

Catani was hungry for the win and was winning many of the centre clearances, allowing for more entries into its forward line.

The switch of ends after quarter time allowed Nyora to make a bit of a comeback.

Nyora put four goals on the scoreboard to Catani’s two.

Full forward Jayden O’Brien led Nyora’s goal scoring efforts with four for the game.

Nyora also switched up its tactics to address some of the issues from the first quarter, delivering an improved second quarter and a smaller margin heading into half time.

Catani kicked it up another notch with four goals in the third quarter.

Unfortunately, it was another scoreless quarter for Nyora.

Jesse Heylen was instrumental across half back, trying to slow Catani wherever he could.

It was a showdown in the fourth quarter.

Nyora kicked the first four goals of the quarter and narrowed the margin to just 25 points.

However, one of Nyora’s players was sent off and the team battled on with 17 players for the last 15 minutes.

The loss of the momentum allowed Catani to run away with a comfortable win.

Despite the end result, Nyora still had a lot to celebrate after the Reserves claimed a 15-point win in the Reserves.

Playing a lot of old Senior premiership players, Catani was hoping for a win, but the Nyora Reserves fought hard to the end to claim its second win of the season.

The club congratulated Charlie Moller for playing his best game of the season.

Next week, Nyora will take on Nilma Darnum at home.

Nyora’s Seniors suffered a tough loss to Nilma Darnum in round one.

The team is looking forward to going into battle again to see how it is has improved throughout the season.
