A NEST full of Leongatha Parrots will be getting about with cold heads from Thursday night, but it’s all for an important fundraising drive inspired by young player Xavier Bolge who is currently battling lymphoma.
“All three of his coaches are shaving their heads, along with a few of the senior players and about 10 of the Thirds kids,” Blake van Rooy said, having long known Xavier.
Blake is also set to shed his hair for the cause, along with others such as Ben Willis, Tom Marriott and Sam Forester.
Xavier’s friend and teammate Beau Grabham has organised a GoFundMe page, raising money for the Leukaemia Foundation, noting that organisation also looks after lymphoma patients.
Beau said any donation will be appreciated.
People have been quick to support the cause, with almost $9,000 raised by Wednesday afternoon, a day prior to the head shaving evening.
Xavier co-captained Leongatha’s Thirds side last year.
Lymphoma is a form of cancer that begins in the lymphatic system, often affecting young people.
There are two types of the disease, Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Shaving takes place prior to Thursday night training, April 13, at approximately 4.30pm.
