UP AND COMING Channel 9 television series Beach House Hunters Australia, hosted by Shelley Craft, hit the road for their first season of filming, stopping over in Phillip Island to take a city couple, Brett, and Kate, through three beach houses across the Bass Coast.
The Abode Entertainment crew filmed in Cape Woolamai, Sunderland Bay and finished recording in Surf Beach.
Potential buyers, Brett, and Kate were warmly welcomed by Alex Scott and Staff sales manager Brian Silver and owner of 10 Dunvegan Crescent, Surf Beach, Simon Adams.
Simon opened his home to the film crew on Wednesday afternoon to showcase his 1920s homestead, a unique beach house situated on 1,956m2 of land, just 100 metres from the ocean.
“The property is dated back to 1921; the estate was developed in 1928 and before that this property was here - surrounded by paddocks with direct views across the bay and farmland.
“I then purchased the property in 1999 when I was working overseas as a professional sailor; about 200 people had gone through the home and thought it was too much work, but I saw the potential. It was hidden by trees, so it was dark and dingy but after six months of renovating, new wiring, new roof and having the home restumped – I gave it life again and it has been a short stay rental ever since,” said Simon.
Having holidayed on the Island since the 60s, and now based in Newhaven, Simon fell in love with the homestead but knew it would be a short stay rental for visitors and tourists alike.
In the past the house was booked out 50 weeks of the year with Simon furnishing the interior to accommodate for 18 people.
The unique home is situated at the narrowest point of Phillip Island and has been designed to take in views of Swan Bay to the North, Churchill Island and the ocean views of Bass Strait and Cape Woolamai to the South.

Despite not living in the property, Simon has made some special memories on the grounds of the homestead, celebrating his 50th birthday with family and friends, and sharing many memories with his children.
The Beach House Hunters Australia crew were shooting the home on Wednesday afternoon with Shelley Craft, speaking with potential buyers Brett and Kate on what seaside living means to them.
The crew shot from the large entrance under the verandah that runs across the length of the property, before taking the buyers inside – allowing them to get a feel of the true character of the home.
During Simon’s renovations, he extended the house to incorporate a large modern kitchen domain that overlooks the rear yard and dining room; but a distinct element of the home is the original open fireplaces in the centre of the rear and front lounge rooms – giving a sense of warmth and comfort to the original homestead.
During the tour of the property, whilst the crew were shooting for the first season of the television series, Simon directed the attention to the rear ‘shed’ that has been restored into an extra bedroom – a space large enough for a queen size bed – a little outside retreat for visitors, as well the expansive outdoor kitchen area that Simon has displayed his array of flags from his travels as a sailor.
A historic property on a large parcel of land is rare in the town of Surf Beach and potential buyers Brett and Kate have had the luxury of touring the home with host Shelley Craft before they make their final decision on which property on Phillip Island will be their beach side home.
Host Shelley Craft said, “It’s so beautiful on Phillip Island we could do an entire series here, but we do have these brand-new residents that are just going to slide on into the community.”
Beach House Hunters Australia season one is coming soon to Channel 9.
