Coroner reports findings from farmers death during Mirboo North storm

1 min read

THE REPORT from an inquest into the death of Bruce David Manintveld from Darlimurla, who died during the major storm event that swept through Mirboo North in February 2024, has been released.

The coroner found that Bruce died after being struck by a retractable roof which had dislodged from the top of its shed by the extreme wind and was blown directly into Bruce’s path, striking him (while he was on the quadbike), and causing significant injuries leading to his death.

Bruce was found by his wife of twenty years, Fiona, who went to give him a hand at the milking shed after the storm had passed, but was surprised that he was not there.

After looking for him, Fiona found Bruce had been thrown clear of his quad bike onto the ground. She called 000, and followed the 000 call taker’s instructions, commencing resuscitation until paramedics and police arrived.

Sincere condolences to Fiona and Bruce’s family for their loss.
