Rates period extended as South Gippsland recovery efforts continue

South Gippsland Shire rate payers are advised that the deadline for payments has been pushed back from February 15 until February 28 due to the impacts of the recent storm event.

Clean up efforts are continuing across the shire with emergency services and council working to clear trees as quickly as possible.

Council crews are concentrating on clearing roads while the SES is focused on private property, including buildings.

"However, due to the sheer volume of reported incidents, the process is slow and patience is required.," South Gippsland Shire Council stated.

People are encouraged to be cautious in open spaces with many damaged overhead tree branches, and to treat all powerlines as live.
