ON Thursday, November 10, 36 local primary school students and many of their parents, friends and teachers attended the SCPSSA District Surfing Contest held at YCW beach, Phillip Island. 

The competition involved students from 10 local South Coast Primary Schools. 

Surf conditions were idyllic with light offshore winds, sunshine and a user friendly two-foot swell rolling into the east end of the bay. 

Students were scored on their best two rides in each heat with the top two competitors progressing through to the next round. 

As well as competing, students were able to learn about heat format, judging and water safety. 

The results on the day were: 

Boys champion: 

1. Arch Rayner (Inverloch Primary) 

2. Dusty Rayner (Inverloch Primary) 

3. Angus Kennedy (Cowes Primary) 

Girls champion: 

1. Scarlett Rennie (Newhaven College) 

2. Evie Lutz (Newhaven College) 

3. Savannah Bennett (Our Lady Star of the Sea Primary School) 

Overall winner: 

First Newhaven College 

Second Inverloch Primary School

Third Cowes Primary School
