ON SATURDAY April 16 at a swap meet at Leongatha recreational reserve and old cream can with my father’s name, Rex Griggs stamped on it was sold before I had the chance to purchase it.
I am hoping that somebody can identify the lady who apparently purchased it so maybe I’m lucky enough to purchase it off her.
As a young kid I used to get up at 4:30 in the morning and go and help my dad to milk the cows after which we would manhandle those big heavy cream cans onto the carryall on the tractor and take them up a steep track to the stand on the road where the Milk factory truck from Leongatha would pick them up.
That is where my working life started, and I learnt the value of working to achieve. Through milking and rabbits, I managed to purchase my first motorbike. Then using the motorbike, I worked around farms locally, in particular carting hay.
Those were wonderful times, whereas a carefree young teenager, I got around the district and talked to all the old farmers, and was often invited in at no notice for a meal by the most wonderful ladies.
People then didn’t have much, but what they did have they were happy to share.
In our modern-day communities with a fast life and fast cars it seems life has changed a lot.
I’m hoping I can regain something from my past.
