MY CONCERN (is) at the rise of violent behaviour in today’s society and the apparent unwillingness of the court system to protect citizens and deter this violent behaviour.

We all see the news reports on nightly news of more bashings, attacks and other detestable behaviours, but while most of us say it’s got to stop, we do nothing to make it stop. I choose to do more and believe that parliament needs to make laws that force court judges to give mandatory sentences and refuse bail in all cases that involve a person or persons doing violence against fellow citizens of this State.

Violence is not done only by adults. Youth offenders also appear to be a constant concern causing citizens to start living in fear. This was never the case when I was growing up in the second half of last century.

Youth offenders are not being deterred by current court decisions. From reports we see that they have a belief that they will not be punished in any serious way. Social media also shares blame for changes of behaviour as apparently some of the violent behaviour is for notoriety on sites like Facebook.

(To our state politicians) I hope that you take this matter onboard and with your colleagues make a start to implement changes in law that will protect todays and future citizens of the State of Victoria.
