The Oxley family of Fish Creek, including Daisy the Dachshund, who couldn’t be left in a hot car, enjoyed the shady trees at the Foster Showgrounds during a warm start to the summer Prom Produce and Craft Market season on Sunday. It has been mooted that dogs on leads will be welcome at the Prom Produce Market next year.

THE summer market season is officially up and running with the first Prom Produce and Craft Market of the year at the Foster Showgrounds on Sunday of the Melbourne Cup Weekend.

According to the bookings officer for the Foster Rotary and Lions Clubs which run the event, Birgit Senior, there were 130 stalls booked for the first market of the new season and the weather superb.

“We’ve had a great market today with lots of new stalls and a great variety on offer which sets us up well for a successful year,” said Ms Senior.

Arif Sadath of Melbourne, formerly of Afghanistan, had a fine array of rugs and handicrafts on sale at the Foster market on Sunday.
With Christmas just around the corner, Sian Evans of Croydon had some good ideas for the Christmas table at her stall at the Foster market on Sunday.
Jeannie Woodward of Chelsea has carried on the family tradition of turning rusty, old saws into artworks, a pastime she used to share with her husband Les. After a lifetime painting on canvass, she’s traded in the linseed oil on a sandblaster, preparing handsaws and circular saws for an artistic makeover.
Rob Fisher of the Bluetree Honey Farm at Dumbalk turned out with his produce at the first Prom Market of the season on Sunday on a busy weekend after reopening their farm gate cafe on Sweeneys Road Dumbalk. It’s been a challenging season locally for bees and apiarists with trees and plants being knocked around at the wrong time by the weather, in particular the wind.
There was a wide selection of plants, produce, giftware and apparel at the first Prom Market of the season on Sunday.

“We’ve got a couple of our biggest markets coming up, on Sunday, December 7, our pre-Christmas market and our holiday market on Sunday, December 28.”

Other markets will follow on Sunday, January 25, Sunday, March 8 and the Easter Sunday Market on April 5.

Of course, across South Gippsland and Bass Coast, the market season never really stops with one event or more on most Saturdays and Sundays.
