WITH a number of retirements over the off-season the Breakers went into Round 1 with a very different line up but maintained the same good vibes as they took on Pearcedale.
The Breakers contested well in the middle and it was midway through the first quarter before Pearcedale found a way to score, with another couple of goals following in quick succession.
The second quarter was much more even with Pearcedale kept to two goals and the Breakers getting a few good forward 50 entries.
The first gamers Gaby Hynes and Lucy Phipps along with Lily-May Hope and Vic Jaskula returning to the game after a few years off, started to find their feet and continued to improve as the game went on.
The goals piled on again for Pearcedale in the third quarter, however none of them came easily with the backline led by Nico Randall and Jen Pomphrey doing a great job to bring the ball to ground and force second and third efforts.
While not reflected on the scoreboard, there were plenty of positives to take from the match. Taking to the field with only 16 players with their opposition having fresh legs on the bench the Breakers kept fighting until the end, conceding just two goals in the last quarter.
Final Score: Pearcedale 14.15-99 def Bass Coast 0.1-1
Best: Sophie Bolding, Tess Angarane, Nicole Randall, Jenna Russo, Tayla Tatterson, Tess Wingfield
This week the Breakers are at home under lights at 7pm on Friday in Dalyston, taking on Mornington Blue.
