MOST people are patient and courteous on the road but over the busy holiday season in Bass Coast and South Gippsland, we’ve also had complaints and seen plenty of incidents where drivers are behaving badly.
Hoons revving up the back streets in Cowes, drivers in front drifting across the highway as they take calls on their mobile or fumble for directions, impatient travellers or tradies darting forward through traffic to get where they want to go…
There have been plenty of incidents by others, and some impetuous moves by ourselves that weren’t needed.
Make no mistake, these incidents can lead to crashes, and so far this year, all six deaths on the state’s roads have happened in country Victoria.
It’s not a huge figure historically but one fatality is one too many and indicates there is something fundamentally wrong with the way we are approaching driving on country roads, and failing to take seriously the task of driving from Point A to Point B.
It’s dangerous out there, and in many cases, we have precious cargo on board. So put away the mobile phone, stop taking liberties with the road rules and have a bit of respect for other road users.
Find some other outlet for your excess energy, frustrations and destructive tendencies.

And this Saturday, January 14 is showtime in Wonthaggi. Looks like being a warm and fine day so make plans to go to the show early and maybe hit the beach in the afternoon or evening. The show is back after three years in the COVID wilderness and could do with plenty of community support. See you there!
