KORUMBURRA Gun Club was thrilled when their juniors bought home the South East Zone Teams Shield for the first time last year.
However, the excitement has increase tenfold, with Kaelem McCurdy, Alicia McGrath and Kira Waldron going back-to-back – an amazing achievement for the club.
Alicia and Kaelem started the series, with Kaelem taking a step back to focus on his studies.
Kira stepped in to compete alongside Alicia, and the girls formed an awesome team.
Just prior to the final, Alicia had an accident that resulted in a neck fracture.
Kaelem came out of retirement to help Kira retain the shield, in a show of wonderful teamwork between some incredibly talented juniors.
They competed against other two person teams at competition over four rounds and a carnival throughout the year.
All shot extremely well against tough competition from metropolitan and rural clay target clubs.
The current shield has been contested annually since 1991 and this is only the second time Korumburra Gun Club has won the award.
Kira is now setting her sights on the South Australian State Titles, Alicia will continue her recovery and Kaelem will return to his studies.
