PEOPLE from Leongatha and surrounds were quick to arrive at the town’s McCartin Street polling centre on Monday as early voting in the State election commenced.
Enthusiastic supporters of the various candidates were there to greet the voters as they arrived, handing out how-to-vote sheets.
Daryl Hook was there to support grandson Mat Morgan who is running for the Greens in the upper house, and the party’s candidate for Gippsland South, Jay Tiziani-Simpson who is running against incumbent Danny O’Brien and five other challengers.
As well as supporting the Greens environmental policies, Daryl is impressed by the party’s aim of creating affordable housing, and believes the Greens stand for integrity and morals.
He is pleased to see young people such as Jay representing the party.
Meree Bath is hoping locals throw their support behind another term for Danny, with the passionate National handing out how-to-vote flyers for him.
First time candidate Clay Esler is enjoying the experience.
“It’s great getting down here, meeting people as they come through, and it’s good to have a chat to them and find out what their concerns are,” Clay said, saying he is taking that into account along with what he has already been hearing from the broader community.
Labor’s candidate Denise Ryan is again challenging the incumbent National, having won over 28 percent of the first preference votes in 2018.
Ian Starkey is handing out how to vote cards for her, as he did then.
