THE extreme weather event on Tuesday, February 13, underlines the climate emergency we are living in.

We – and our governments – need to support the communities of Mirboo North and other areas where people lost lives, livelihoods and property.

This weather event will not be the last, in our destabilised climate.

They remind us how crucial our established emergency services are.

The previous week Bass Coast Climate Action Network met the Mayor, Cr. Clare le Serve. We discussed the urgent need for stand-alone solar powered battery systems in community centres in all

Bass Coast towns so community members can charge phones, run communications and support each other.

Get such small extensions to preparedness going now in our power-dependent world, not in the midst of an event!
