The West Gippsland Football Netball Competition’s U18 squad won the interleague carnival undefeated on Wednesday.

WEST Gippsland Football Netball Competition secured an undefeated victory at the U18s interleague carnival last week.

The carnival was held at the Ted Summerton Reserve in Moe last Wednesday, July 3.

West Gippsland’s scores were as follows: West Gippsland 2.3.15 defeated Ellinbank 1.2.8; West Gippsland 8.4.52 defeated North Gippsland 4.1.25; West Gippsland 5.1.31. defeated Gippsland 2.3.15;

West Gippsland 9.5.59 defeated Mid Gippsland 3.2.20.

West Gippsland’s closest clash was against the Ellinbank Football Netball League in round one, having won by just seven points.

Rising Longwarry star and Ellinbank captain Cooper Brown was inspirational and set the example for his teammates while behind centre, where much of the game was spent.

Kyson Cornwall, Riley McLeod, Joel Armstrong and Tom Burgess did well to neutralise many West Gippsland attacks.

Ellinbank was rewarded with a last-minute goal by key forward Kai Mounsey.

West Gippsland outplayed Ellinbank and thoroughly deserved victory despite the close-end margin.

The Player of the Carnival was Phillip Island onballer Zac Walker.

Jarvis Harvey from Inverloch-Kongwak and Regan Awty from Warragul Industrials were also standouts.

Inverloch-Kongwak’s Zak Box captained the team, and the coaches were Koo Wee Rup’s Jase Kelly and Inverloch-Kongwak’s Chris Terlich.

The Ramos twins from Koo Wee Rup served the team as assistant coaches.

“We were really proud of the kids, not just on the day but after the effort they put in at training over the last six weeks,” West Gippsland Football Netball Competition’s operations manager Brett Tessari said.

The training sessions were held at the Koo Wee Rup Recreation Reserve.

Of the 12 West Gippsland teams, nine were represented in the selected squad of 25.

Mr Tessari thanked the parents and volunteers who travelled to Koo Wee Rup and Moe to ensure the team could
compete.
