IN REFERENCE to your editorial on February 20 with regards to Cowes Cultural Centre:
I am a resident of Inverloch. My friends and I have regularly enjoyed meeting for a movie at the Wonthaggi Arts Centre for many years.
Since Cowes opened, movies at Wonthaggi have become sporadic to say the least. Now, the last movie screening on Tuesdays (the only day movies are shown in Wonthaggi) is at 5.30pm? This means people who work cannot attend.
Cowes is currently screening movies four days a week including weekends and evenings but none on weekends or evenings at Wonthaggi. Why this disparity?
The arts centre has always been a community service for all ratepayers and visitors. Why is the community of Wonthaggi and surrounds being less valued and served than those on the Island?
They don’t advertise here in the Sentinel-Times anymore. Do they expect everyone whether local or visitor to know to go online for screenings? What about the seniors in the community who don’t use the internet?
Something has seriously gone wrong since the advent of their new shiny toy in Cowes. I surmise that the Cowes centre is all that matters now, thus the Wonthaggi centre is left in the dark for movies on weekends and evenings.
