Windy weather plays havoc for some but pleases others

THE Bureau of Meteorology might have been predicting stormforce winds, big waves and high tides on Thursday, however while some were battening down the hatches, local surfers were watching the direction of the winds and the rising tide.

And with the swell size best suited to the reefs, one of Phillip Island's most popular surfing spots, where the Shorttailed Shearwaters call home, was the surfing spot of choice for big wave surfers.

With a northerly wind blowing direct offshore, the waves were clean and straight, but a little hard to paddle into due to the strength of the wind.

But once up and riding, the waves shaped up well and there were plenty to go around. Check it out.
