Wonthaggi Croquet Club holds Twin 'W' Shield competition

SEVERAL years ago, a golf croquet competition between Wonthaggi and Warragul, to be known as the Twin ‘W’ Shield and to be held on the first Saturday after Melbourne Cup Day.

The event was again held on November 5, this year hosted by the Wonthaggi club. 

Four pairs from each club faced off in a level play doubles competition in perfect playing conditions. The greens were immaculate and players and supporters from both clubs enjoyed a terrific day of excellent croquet. Four rounds played with a barbecue to break up proceedings and a sumptuous afternoon tea to round off the day. 

Wonthaggi managed to wrench the shield from Warragul this time, comprehensively winning the day 11 games to 5. 

Tuesday, November 8, two Wonthaggi pennant teams pitted against one another with Wonthaggi 1 beating Wonthaggi 2 by 10 games to 4. 

Wonthaggi 1 now sits third on the ladder with Wonthaggi 2 an unfortunate last. 

Warragul tops the table being unbeaten in 11 matches.

Our external doubles tournament, sponsored by The Wonthaggi Workmens Club, takes place on November 26-27, and we also welcome anyone to come along on any of our club days, Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from 10.00am.
