As part of their "Love your Reserve" project, Kongwak Hills Landcare Group is coordinating a community tree planting event in the Kongwak Pioneer Reserve to celebrate “National Tree Day” this Saturday, July 29 from 10am to 4pm.
And the Reserve is in need of some tender loving car from its community, according to the local Landcare group.
“We’d love for you to join us to get plants in the ground,” they said while issuing a community wide invitation of their website this week at https://www.basscoastlandcare.org.au/kongwakhills.html
“Dry years have diminished the north/west section such that a critical mass of understory and trees have died back, leaving the forest exposed to further dryness, loss of plants and proliferation of weeds.
“Replacing the understory, midstory and trees will restore this part of our beautiful reserve to a sustainable landscape and support its plants, animals and birds.
“We would also like you, our community, to learn about Landcare, to love your forest and learn how to give it the care it needs.”
Tree planting event details
When: Saturday 29 July 2023 - 10am-4pm
Where: Location: Kongwak Pioneer Reserve Williams Street Kongwak. Parking at R.N. Scott Memorial Park, 1455 Korumburra Wonthaggi Road. Planting area: Immediately beyond the entrance.
What: BYO gloves, sturdy footwear, suitable outdoor clothing, drink bottle, snacks, planters (if you have them).
‘Bush Foods’ feast to follow
A bush foods feast is provided for lunch.
Wolfgang's renown gourmet sausages with bush herbs. Salads with bush foods and dressings. Native fruit and honey bliss balls. River mint herbal tea.
