MARK Cantwell has saved MDU from an upset defeat at the hands of Korumburra, putting on a 48-run partnership for the last wicket with Sam Bright, not long after a dominant showing with the ball.

Korumburra batted first and aside from a patient 27 from Danny Lloyd, no other batter could break the 20-run mark and combat the bowling of Cantwell and Darien Matthews.

Cantwell finished with 4/11 off eight and Matthews 3/30 off seven, restricting Korumburra to 7/137 after 40 overs.

But when it was MDU’s turn to bat, they too had trouble coping with the opposing bowlers.

Matt Olden took his time getting to 24, while Nick Eddy blasted 44 off 19 balls, but the rest of the team couldn’t give a yelp.

Toby Gale was bowling brilliantly, taking 4/28 off eight, and when Korumburra broke through for the ninth wicket while MDU were only on 90, they would’ve thought the game was in the bag.

But Cantwell and Bright had other ideas, with Cantwell making 26 and Bright 11, to save the day and secure a one-wicket win in the 35th over.

Sibley’s century sees Club crush Diggers

A SUPER charged century from Wonthaggi Club’s Luke Sibley saw his side pick up a massive win over OMK on Saturday.

OMK batted first on their home ground and when both openers were dismissed for zero, James Paterson stepped up for the Diggers making a crucial 56.

Jake Cochrane also added 25 off as many balls and with a few other handy contributions, including 21 not out from Shane Taylor, the hosts reached 171 before being bowled out.

Wonthaggi Club’s Fraser West played a big role with the ball, taking 4/38 off eight and then his younger brother Harry got a front row seat to the Sibley show.

Sibley was blasting boundaries all over Outtrim Recreation Oval, as Harry West churned out an unbeaten 35.

And when Sibley was eventually caught on 115, the damage was well and truly done, allowing Club to win by nine wickets with more than eight overs to spare.

KB keeps season alive against Tigers

KILCUNDA Bass has successfully defended their strong total to keep their 2021/22 season alive in A2.

Steve Oates opened Kilcunda Bass’ account and he was seeing them very nicely on his way to an unbeaten 83.

With some other solid but not massive scores from the likes of Ash Oats 20, and with some poor bowling from Foster that saw 33 extras go in the book, Kilcunda Bass reached 7/190.

Once again Foster captain Josh Toner was extremely threatening with the bat, making 69 off 83 balls, but too much of the load was heaped on his shoulders.

His teammates were struggling to cope with Kilcunda Bass’ bowling, especially veteran James Mahood who picked up 4/20 off his seven overs.

Mahood’s efforts coupled with good fielding and bowling from the rest of the side saw Foster all out for 142 in the 35th over.
