Close call after car smashes into restaurant

A WOMAN driving a Mercedes Benz has accidentally accelerated through a Cowes restaurant last night hitting four diners who fortunately received only minor injuries.

The incident occurred about 7pm on Wednesday, February 2, at Wing Ho Chinese Restaurant, with local police and emergency services quickly arriving on scene.

The vehicle smashed through the front section of the restaurant, causing significant damage to the brick structure and a glass window.

“A lady was going to park in front of the restaurant and accidentally put her foot on the accelerator instead of the brake,” Act Sergeant Jonathan Burg said.

“There was four people dining who were hit, but they had very minor injuries."

A staff member has reported that there were 8 tables of about 30 customers in the dining at the time of the accident.

“The police investigation is ongoing.”

Act Sgt Burg said the driver was, who was aged in her 60s, was not affected by drugs or alcohol.
