CROOKS have vandalised a historic train carriage while the train’s transmission system, which weighed approximately one tonne, was also stolen from Korumburra’s Railway Precinct.
According to local police, the disused train carriages were being stored in a shed at the precinct to be transported to South Australia.
However, between March 11-13, unknown offenders threw projectiles at one of the carriages, breaking two windows and causing almost $600 in damage.
During the same time period, the train’s transmission, which was being kept on a pallet separate to the train, was also stolen.
Police said the transmission would have clearly stood out of when being transported and believed the offenders must have had crane capabilities to load it.
In a separate incident, Korumburra Police are also investigating the theft of a calf from a float which was parked at the rear of Kelly’s Bakery.
The incident occurred on March 5, from approximately 10am to 11.30am.
An unknown person/s has opened the side door to the float, where 10 calves were being transported, before stealing one of them.
Police said the driver didn’t realise the animal was missing until arriving at the drop-off.
Anyone with information or may have witnessed suspicious behaviour regarding these two incidents should contact Senior Constable Robert Burn at Korumburra Police Station on 5655 1244.
