A century of very happy memories for Esmeralda
Esmeralda Langhorne and family recently celebrated her 100th birthday, who now has a whopping 32 great grandchildren!

ESMERALDA Langhorne recently celebrated a milestone 100th birthday surrounded by her loving family at the Wonthaggi Workmens Club.

The following is a brief but touching account of Esme’s life that the family supplied to mark the special occasion.

Esme was born in Collingwood and had a sister who was six years younger, and they shared the same memories of their father.

Her father was a wonderful man, very quiet, thoughtful and kind.

Later in her youth, Esme resided at homes from Williamstown to Kinglake.

For holidays, she travelled all over Victoria by train, as her father, who worked on the railways, received a family yearly pass.

Esme married her husband, Henry Winfield Langhorne, at Abbotsford in 1946.

She was 23 years old and her husband, a returned services veteran, was 25 years old.

They raised seven children together: Sandra, Daryl, Peter, Russell, Judith, Paulette and Mark.

Upon retirement, Esme and her husband moved to Kilcunda in 1981.

Mostly self-sufficient with vegetables, Esme and her husband had a beautiful life together at Kilcunda.

Unfortunately, during 1985, Esme’s husband passed away at Wonthaggi and District Hospital.

Esme then moved to Wonthaggi in 1986.

During her time, Esme was president of the seniors’ citizens club for eight years, and while in Wonthaggi, she travelled and toured England and Scotland.

As mentioned, she has seven children, 18 grand children and 32 great grandchildren.

Due to health, Esme now resides at Griffiths Point Lodge, San Remo.

Esme has enjoyed a great family life and cannot remember being unhappy or going without friends.
