A community gem in Amy

FOR the fourth year running, I have put a call out to our community to let me know about that special someone who has shown their true community colours in 2023. There were no rules, categories, or age limits. They just had to live or work in the State District of Bass.

Unsurprisingly, the response has been overwhelming with an inundation of beautiful stories of people whose generosity of spirit, selflessness, acts of kindness, made my heart sing too. They filled me with pride and again exemplified the very best of us.

Amazing community members in our kinders, schools, clubs, op-shops, service stations, café’s, libraries, local organisations and businesses all leaving an indelible imprint of positivity, exceptional service and thoughtfulness that is so worth celebrating. They all filled me with pride and again exemplified the very best of us.

A community member delighted in telling me a slither of your story, accomplishments so far, and your eagerness to bring change for the better and joy to those around you.

It is hard to believe that you are only eleven years of age!

Your courage and tenacity in navigating your own vision impairment and the love, care and support you demonstrate at home for your two siblings who have Autism and ADHD, is testament to the remarkable young person that you are.

Despite your own health challenges, you found a passion for swimming and coupled with the support of the community you have made a real difference in the lives of other sick kids and their families.

Your contribution to the Starlight foundation Super Swim Challenge, swimming 25 kilometres and raising over $10,000 for a charity so close to your heart, and as a kid helping other sick kids is simply inspirational. So many hearts are singing.

I loved hearing that you have already registered for the Super Swim Challenge in 2024!

Along with this, your participation in the 10 kilometre hike on top of Mount Buller raising awareness for Autism this year and the photos I have seen are simply sensational!

“We are so proud of Amy; she should be really proud of herself”.

“Amy’s participation in the challenge highlighted her natural ability to care for others”.

You are an absolute Community Gem.

Thank you for being you and having our community at the heart of everything you do.
