THE San Remo SES unit is inviting the local community to be open minded about how they can personally service their community as the unit is looking for members with wide range of skill sets.

Focused on growing their membership to keep up with the growth of the town, Unit Controller Mandy Chancellor is hoping the community can see the diversity of the current members and this will inspire the locals to explore being a volunteer.

All members are well supported and in particular new recruits who are guided through various training streams suited to their interests and capabilities.

“SES needs those that lead on the ground, but we also need those that have administration, communication, financial and leadership skills. It’s an amazing life to be part of where lifelong friends are made and skills are constantly being upgraded and developed.”

Within SES units there is a never-ending range of roles required including duty officers, vehicle maintenance, chainsaw handling, first aid, crew leaders and deputy controllers to name just a few.

There is definitely hands on skills required but there are also other roles which engage non-operational skills like community engagement.

“Once established, recruits can undergo further training exploring their own interests, including heavy duty vehicle licencing and 4WD training – the opportunities are endless with the SES and at San

Remo Unit we are looking to welcome and support new members,” said Mandy.
