SOMETIMES you just need to have some fun! Newhaven College’s Parent and Friends Association (PFA) has been reinvented in 2023. A passionate and highly organised group of current parents and other supporters have come together to create a cohesive and collaborative group.
Their focus is to raise money for specific projects and activities to benefit College students. Starting with the incredibly successful Open Day Sausage Sizzle in March and Mother’s Day stall in May, it was time to have some silly fun while raising funds.
The Colour Explosion Run took place on the College oval on Thursday, August 3. The sunny and windy conditions made for the perfect experience. Students from Prep to Year 12 got into the spirit of the event, running through an obstacle course while parent and student volunteers ensured they exploded with colour.

Clouds of coloured powder wafted across the grass, seeking out students and onlookers alike. Some of the students really had some fun with costumes, with crazy professors, unicorns, storm troopers, roosters and even a washing machine! It proved to be an incredible mid-winter cobweb clearer, with hysterical laughter ringing across campus.
President of the PFA, Angel Chambers was very happy with the enthusiasm shown by all who participated, “The event has helped fundraise towards a scoreboard for the school oval which is utilised by not only Newhaven College students but also, members of the Phillip Island community.
“However, the day was viewed as more than a fundraising event. It was seen as an opportunity for the entire school of over 900 students from prep to year 12, and teachers to participate in an event.”
