I’M writing to thank unsuccessful candidates in the Council elections. Thank you for being willing to serve your community.
To successful candidates, I hope you will provide a reset for your Council. Instead of ‘looking backwards’ – to ‘basics’ or some ‘golden past’ – I urge you to look forward, to current and future challenges facing communities. Whatever personal priorities you campaigned on, I hope you will listen to your constituents and be their voice.
I also hope you will listen to fellow councillors and work effectively and respectfully with them, as a team, to get things done. You can’t achieve anything on your own. You will need to collaborate, debate, negotiate, mediate to make a positive difference. Please put aside personal and political differences and do what is right for your shire as a whole, even if it is unpopular.
Good luck!
