HOW long will the entrances to Inverloch Surf Beach remain closed? While safety and environmental protection are vital, prolonged closures will severely affect our community.
The draft Cape to Cape Resilience Plan estimates annual economic losses between $2.5 million and $7.4 million due to such closures.
I am particularly concerned that both Mahers Landing and Inverloch boat ramps may be closed at the same time. This would hinder the SES and Surf Life Saving Club’s ability to launch boats in emergencies and will negatively impact local marine and tourism businesses, with a flow-on effect for all Inverloch businesses.
Allowing the surf beach entrances to remain closed during school holidays will further harm our local economy, particularly in the tourism sector.
The council must prioritise reopening the beach and keeping at least one local boat ramp open during the upgrades.
Publishing a clear timeline for the work, with details on responsible parties, would reassure the community.
