Car engulfed in flames on South Gippsland Highway
Car fire on the South Gippsland Highway west of Korumburra, single occupant escaped "overheated" car before it burst into flames.

EMERGENCY services are currently responding to a car fire on the South Gippsland highway near Bena.

The car is fully engulfed in flames.

The fire is currently raging (at around 4.10pm Friday, July 1) but there were no occupants in the car.

Quotes from the driver - who was travelling to Sandy Point:

"I was driving along when all of sudden the engine overheated and I quickly pulled over and got out of the car.

"Shortly after that it burst into flames," said the man in shock about what had just occurred.


"Fortunately, two electricians stopped and helped by getting a fire extinguisher onto it initially and they called the CFA," he said.

Police are now on the scene.
