Celebration of Community Grants
South Gippsland Shire councillors display the total value of Community Grants allocated.

COMMUNITY organisations from across South Gippsland Shire will be able to carry out much-needed projects with assistance from council’s Community Grants Program.

Recipients recently celebrated at a grants presentation night in Leongatha’s Memorial Hall, the first such event held since 2019 due to Covid, with a whopping 44 organisations receiving funding.

More than $220,000 was allocated to support community initiatives, projects and events, with that funding provided through rounds 1 and 2 of the 2021/22 Community Grants Program.

Community, volunteer and not for profit organisations can apply for Community Grants, which are divided into three categories.

They are:

• Minor and major projects and equipment

• Planning and development reports

• Festivals and events

“The Community Grants Program is the most direct way that Council supports our community to pursue their projects,” Mayor Mohya Davies said.

While she acknowledged it takes time and effort to apply for a grant, Mohya said that funding provided through the Community Grants Program makes the South Gippsland region better by benefiting communities.

Strzelecki Lions Club president Russell Jones attended the grants presentation, expressing delight at $4,000 funding allocated to the club for a new generator.

That will be used for markets and for the upcoming Dairy Expo at Korumburra.

Grants ranged from $1,200 through to $10,000.

Round 1 of the Community Grants Program for 2022/23 is now open and closes Wednesday 31 August.
