Coburg serve up tough loss for visiting Breakers

THE Breakers donned blue arm bands as part of the TAC and AFL Victoria Road Safety Round.

The team also used the opportunity to honour Luke Bolding who passed away several years ago in a road accident.

Family friend Carly Heislers wore a jumper with zero on it in his memory to signify the goal of zero road fatalities

Despite losing the toss and kicking into a stiff breeze the Breakers came out to play in the first quarter.

Ahlee Penry was contesting strongly in the ruck while the team’s tackle pressure was fabulous.

This combined with disciplined defence on the last line by Rachael Cameron and Hannah Mills saw Coburg scoreless for much of the first quarter before they converted a sole goal late in the term.

Unfortunately, in the second quarter the Breakers were unable to utilise the wind advantage scoring only one point for the term and conceding a goal into the wind.

The third quarter followed this thread with Coburg able to convert two majors.

Coach Bianca put regular centre half back Chelsea Connell into the middle which had a huge impact with her talk and attack around the ball lifting the team. This helped swing the momentum the breakers way.

Tess Wingfield delivered some nice inside 50’s while Kate Caughey made the most of a set shot converting the Breakers first major.

While the Breakers couldn’t get the win, they finished off strongly winning the quarter and holding Coburg scoreless.

Final Score Breakers 1.4 defeated by Coburg 4.5
