Community club of the year nomination for Stony Creek

STONY Creek Racing Club is in the running for the 2022/23 Country Racing Community Club of the Year Award by Racing.com.

Speaking with the Sentinel-Times, Adam Olszanski, CEO of Stony Creek Racing Club, was delighted with the nomination.

“The category we’ve been nominated for is community club of the year and there’s been six clubs (nominated) across the state, and all up there’s about 60 odd,” he said.

“They’re all small to medium size and race up to 6-7 times (a year) and we race five.

“We've been picked out because obviously they've seen that we’ve had a good season over a number of criteria and hopefully we can take out the award.”

Adam explained the clubs are chosen directly rather than nominations being put forward.

“That was definitely a surprise, the criteria looks at community engagement, customer focus, capital improvements, OH&S and sponsorship,” he said.

“We've had a really good season… we've had a membership drive which has seen a 20 per cent increase in membership, which we're really proud of and excited about.

“We’re also about to embark on a big irrigation project and a couple of years ago we had the new race day stalls built.

“So there's been a lot of updates and improvements to Stony Creek over the years and it looks like it will continue.

“We're also looking at a project to extend and improve the female jockeys’ room being done in conjunction with the footy club, who also use our building.”
