AFTER an improved five weeks of footy, Nyora faced a massive test last weekend, as they hosted the formidable ladder-leaders Neerim South.

The Saints needed to be at their best, although their best was not how they started as the visiting Cats brought the heat early and booted five goals to none in the first quarter to lead by 32-points.

The second term was more competitive from the hosts, creating many more shots at goal, they were just unable to finish their work, settling for just two goals from seven shots.

The dominant visitors on the other hand, continued on their merry way, soaking up the Saints fightback to kick another five goals of their own for the quarter.

Neerim South stretching their lead out to 46-points at the main break.

The match continued to be a great battle despite the teams occupying positions at either end of the ladder, the Cats just able to flex their muscle towards the end of each quarter and kick away.

The third quarter proved to be the visitors best, as they slammed on six goals to two to crack the 100 mark and push their lead to an even 70 at the final break.

Although, the young Saints did not give in, saving their best quarter for last holding the Cats to just three goals whilst they slotted two of their own.

The young Nyora side showed great courage, disallowing the dangerous Neerim side from completely blowing them away while also kicking the highest score the Cats have allowed all season.

A great little takeaway for Dylan Heylen and his side despite the 78-point loss.

The Cats keep their undefeated season intact, they’ll look to make it 15 wins in a row next week when they host Lang Lang.

As for the Sainters, they are on the right track and will hope to claim their sixth win of the year next week at Nilma Darnum.
