David and Bhavani Rooks opened their Ventnor Road Phillip Island garden for the Bass Coast Edible Gardens Weekend again on the weekend.

IT’S very much a case of do as I do, not just do as I say for Bass Coast Shire Councillor David Rooks, who with his partner Bhavani opened their Ventnor Road Phillip Island garden again at the weekend as part of the Bass Coast Edible Gardens Weekend.

Despite the sometimes stormy weather, David welcomed hundreds of visitors for a look over his permaculture-based rural setting which has been three years in the making.

“We were in the Edible Gardens Weekend last year and it’s been a success again despite the weather,” said David.

“It’s mostly a permaculture setup but we’re giving lots of things a try, everything from solar panels and an electric car charger to a homemade biogas plant, an outdoor solar shower, chooks, everything to make our footprint as light as possible.

“It’s a lot of fun.”

Organised by Bass Coast Adult Learning, there are 15 edible gardens open on the weekend, Saturday and Sunday, February 4 and 5 and with the weather on the improve on Sunday (today) there’s still time toyou’re your tickets and get out there.
