CONGRATULATIONS to the South Gippsland Mayor. I have noticed in the past few weeks in his report, he has discussed Father’s Day and the importance of families, RUOK day and mental health, sports upgrades, the offshore wind turbines, 100-year legacy celebrations, small business, the 2024 Australia Day awards, and citizenship ceremonies, issues that the majority of ratepayers are affected by and interested in.

Yet in comparison our Bass Coast Mayor has reported ‘that there is a lot to love about Bass Coast,’ (but the council definitely would not be included). Even though the Bass Coast relies on tourists, the council is going to introduce a short-term rental fee, this along with the new state tax could have detrimental effects on tourism and small business’ especially at this time when many are suffering already.

The Mayor also reported on the male-centric names of our roads and pathways, Bass Coast Council advances their own personal social/political agendas such as same prize money for both genders, paid superannuation while on maternity leave, advocating for the yes vote , not enough streets named after women, inclusive toilets [if council really wanted to be inclusive, would have had one male, one female and one for male/female and the disabled], attempting to not sing the National Anthem on Australia Day, not giving awards on Australia Day, all without any consultation or surveys from ratepayers.

Yet South Gippsland Council addresses issues of families, mental health, sports upgrades, wind turbines, small businesses, legacy, Australia Day awards, citizenship ceremonies – issues that affect their ratepayers.
