A recent fundraiser for Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre helped raise $10k for the charity.

A FUNDRAISING Trivia Night helped raise more than $10k for Phillip Island Community and Learning Centre (PICAL) on Friday, July 29.

More than 150 people attended what was a hugely successful event, not only in terms of funds raised, but also the coming together of the community for an enjoyable night of fun, knowledge and fine food.

PICAL received donated items to auction, from 47 local businesses and individuals.

Most items were displayed throughout the evening for silent auction bids, but 18 selected items were publicly auctioned by hard-working Steve Harvey from Ray White Cowes, who also volunteered his time.

The auctions raised more than $6500 on the night, and ticket sales generated a further $3600, raising just over $10k for PICAL.

Guests were treated to round after round of hot and cold platters of finger foods prepared throughout the day by PICAL’s own volunteers and staff, while PICAL Committee members organised the night’s Trivia events and auctions.

PICAL’s general manager Greg Thompson said, “It was a huge team effort involving weeks of planning, and everyone who helped is to be commended.”

Jeff Floyd, who was also ‘master of ceremonies’ for the night, praised the generosity of everyone who donated their time, auction items and the golf club for the venue.

Most of all Jeff paid tribute to all the guests and the community of Phillip Island for being so generous in their support of PICAL.

He said that PICAL had a number of upcoming challenges, when the charity has to move its operations to two new sites in November this year.

Before then, Jeff said that PICAL would also be holding an ‘End Of An Era’ event to celebrate PICAL’s 40 years on its current site, and he asked everyone to get the word out and invite anyone who had ever been involved with PICAL to come and celebrate this next event.
