THE Year 12 class of 2022 said their final farewell to Newhaven College at a formal graduation assembly, receiving their valedictory certificates and academic awards last week.

Principal Tony Corr addressed the ceremony reflecting ‘the journey of each year level is different but yours has been especially unique.’

“As you go into the world, we hope you take some of what we value here at Newhaven College with you. Not just a love of learning, but the love of the outdoors, the benefits of physical activity, the value of creative endeavours, the importance of respect and the place of community. They are what we value as a school, and we hope to have nourished you in your time here,” said Mr Corr.

The presentation of awards at their final assembly highlighted the talent found at Newhaven College.

Awards were presented to students in each Year 12 subject with the highest grades and who have made the greatest contribution to the development of the subject for the benefit of all students.

Awards were also presented to those who displayed house values, excellence in sport, and the recipients of Gold Duke of Edinburgh.

These were followed by the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Future Innovators Award, going to Hamish Brosnan, and the ADF Long Tan Leadership Award presented to Madison Grand-Court.

The two most prestigious awards were the final presentations. The Principal’s Prize was awarded to Nicholas Thomas and the Papworth Prize to Jasmine Sullivan.

This particular group of Year 12s represents the last ties to the Boys Home Road campus.

Thirteen of 2022 Year 12 students were from the last Prep class at the old school before moving to the environmentally diverse 83-acre campus in Rhyll.

These students, along with the whole Year 12 cohort, are dedicated to their school and will have life-long ties to Newhaven College, as well as the surrounding community.
