JULY 14-20 marked Farm Safety Week as well as the annual release of the annual Safer Farms Report from Farmsafe.
I was saddened to read in this year’s report that there have already been 10 fatalities on Victorian farms in the first six months of 2024 – a worrying jump from the seven fatalities that occurred on Victorian farms through 2023.
To be clear, there is no number other than zero that would be acceptable.
For many residents of Gippsland South, farms are not just our workplace but also our homes. They are where our families live and play and we must ensure safety is a priority.
I am encouraging everyone who lives or works on a farming property to take the time to read the report and consider what changes might be able to be implemented on your farm to prevent unnecessary loss of lives.
