SOCCER was back with a bang on Sunday, April 16, as Wonthaggi United hosted the annual ‘Wonthaggi Toyota U12 Pre-season Cup’.
With the Gippsland Soccer Season commencing next week, the Cup was a terrific opportunity for players across Gippsland to dust off the cobwebs.
Any dust was certainly washed away as the torrential rain pelted players and their supporters, but that didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.
Eight U12 teams from across Gippsland battled it out, before the top two teams played off in the Grand Final.
Competition was close but it was the two teams from Drouin who finished with the points to secure a position in the Grand Final.
It was a fierce final, with both teams hoping to secure bragging rights early in the season.
However, a single goal to the maroon side gave them the lead and as the final whistle blew a 1-0 victory.
The Game Day MVP was awarded to a very deserving Harry Sivori (Phillip Island) and special congratulations to Eli McLean-Watling (Drouin Maroon) for receiving the Grand Final MVP.
Wonthaggi United is looking forward to a super season of soccer and it is not too late to join.
