FOREST Fire Management crews and Bass Coast Group CFA firefighters are working on blacking out approximately two hectares in the French Island National Park on the northern side of the island.

It’s believed the fire is most likely to have started from a lightning strike during Tuesday’s storm with no threat to properties or infrastructure.

The fire has been contained with three aircraft and ground crews working yesterday to put the fire out and additional crews working today to black out.

Transport was supported by Hasting’s Coast Guard with four vehicles assisting French Island CFA including Wonthaggi Tanker 1 and Ultra Light, Kernot Tanker 1 and Bass Ultra Light.
