MY NAME is John Trigt and I am the person that interjected at the council meeting on the September 20, with the word shame. I firmly believe in freedom of expression, and I congratulate Cr Letica Laing in tabling the motion on the yes/no vote on the referendum. The way she presented the motion for council to back a yes vote I personally believe it to be to political and not councils core business.
Other councillors either spoke for or against the motion and I respect their personal viewpoint, but I would like to remind them why all councillors had been elected to council.
They are there to serve the ratepayers of Bass Coast and not to project their own political views towards a federal referendum.
Bass Coast ratepayers, are quite capable of making up their own minds, remember they voted you in. For the record I will be voting YES.
Defiantly ‘shame’ but certainly not disappointed or surprised.
While we continue to see the mayor Cr Michael Whelan omit to read out eight questions, submitted by ratepayers at this council meeting September 20.
All regarding the controversial Sunderland Bay Surf Beach Special Charge Scheme, which is nearing the pointy end of its existence.
I remind the mayor of his comment he made on ABC radio recently that in his view public questions at council meetings are fantasy. Fantasy are dreams, shame on you mayor for taking away our dreams of a fair go and stifling our freedom of expression. Shame on you. Michael I will be happy to have a coffee and a chat with you anytime.
