I UNDERSTAND that PM Netanyahu of Israel has used passages from the Torah to justify some of his actions in Gaza. Given that South Africa has taken Israel to the International Court for possible genocidal actions in Gaza we need to acknowledge that most religions can and have been used in the past to justify acts of genocide.
In South Africa religion was previously used to justify apartheid and throughout the world religion has been used to suppress local cultures as this was regarded as being in those people’s best interest.
To be fair I also note that Christians led the fight against slavery and the Pope has recently referred to the children of Gaza as little Jesuses, so religion can also be a force against genocide.
