BASS Coast Shire has begun installing Smart Parking sensors at parking bays in Cowes and Wonthaggi this week.
The parking bays will be unavailable while works are underway, with signage in place to notify motorists.
However, the shire has assured the project won’t impact the current number of bays and there won’t be any changes to parking limits or restrictions.
A timeline of installation includes:
- Mid - late August: Night works from 08:00pm to 06:00am to install 498 on-street bays in Cowes, on Thompson Avenue, Chapel Street, The Esplanade and at the Cowes Transit Centre Carpark
- Late August - mid September: Night works from 08:00pm to 06:00am to install 262 on-street bays in Wonthaggi, on Graham Street and McBride Avenue.
- Mid September: Day works from 07:00am to 05:00pm to install poles and Variable Message Sign installation in Thompson Avenue on Church Street and Chapel Street.
The project will go live in October, with a Smart Parking guidance app to assist drivers on available spots.
