WHAT a day for the 2023 Woolamai races with Grande Marengo taking out the Woolamai cup for trainer Luke Oliver and jockey Shaun Cooper – a good win for owners Lachlan and Emma.

The crowd were embracing the atmosphere of the summer weather and live music by Imogen Price, whilst celebrating the fashions on the field hosted by Eventful Horizons Wedding and Event Decorating with Glenn and Jessica Odgers.

Judges Mandy Manning and Karlie Owen joined Jessica in selecting fashion finalists from the crowd, looking for the glorious return of style to the country racing festival – selecting those who incorporated colour and accessories.

Throughout the afternoon, MC Glenn and Jessica highlighted three category winners, including best suited, best couple, and best dressed, with Angela Merton taking out best dressed for her bright green creative look.

“It was time to bring fashion back to country racing, to celebrate individual styles and highlight the personalities attending the Woolamai cup – a little extra fun on race day,” said Jessica.

The fashions on the field were sponsored by Influence clothing, the Wonthaggi Club, the Westernport Hotel, the Phillip Island Winery, Jettah and Till design, the Conlan family and the Woolamai Racing Club – awarding the winners of each category with a picnic hamper, filled with wine and a picnic rug.

Tom Gibson from Alex Scott and Staff said it’s great to be a part of the great race and was a pleasure to be presenting the trophy.

He congratulated the committee for a fantastic day, noting that the track looked an absolute treat.

An amazing ride by Shaun Cooper who said, “he did it all for me, it’s good to be a part of it – special thanks to Emma and Lachlan.”

Shaun Cooper also took away the first race of the day – TS Constructions Cup Open riding Peace Process and race four – 5 Blind Maiden Plate on Epsom Magic.

The Green Valley Grains race was won by jockey Melinda McDonald on Rivers Reward, Wonthaggi Workmen’s Club Open won by Raymond Douglas on Copthorne and race six the Bet365 won by Maddison Morris on Hayrick Lane.
