Incredible $404,000 donation supports heart services

CARDIAC services have received a further boost at Bass Coast Health (BCH) following a significant donation from a generous benefactor. 

The late Norman Martell bequeathed $404,000 to BCH to improve Cardiac services in the community. 

The donation enhances the availability of state-of-the-art equipment for use in the Cardiac and Stress Echo services. 

The donation has enabled the purchase of patient monitors, an echo cardiograph, ECG halters and renovations to the rooms at Wonthaggi Hospital.

BCH Operations director Kirsten Weinzierl and Cardiologist Dr Hitesh Patel expressed their sincere appreciation to Mr Martell’s wife Lyn Martell, when she visited Wonthaggi Hospital recently. 
“Currently, several cardiology clinics run across our Wonthaggi and Cowes sites, for which the monitors are in high demand,” Dr Patel said. 

“We are also very excited to announce the new Echo Cardiograph machine will be in operation at our Wonthaggi site soon, pending accreditation.” 

Renovations to the Ambulatory Care entrance at Wonthaggi Hospital and refurbishment to existing space in this area will ensure BCH’s Cardiac team can provide an even higher level of care.

Lyn Martell said, “I am pleased to see this donation is valued and will help other patients suffering from Cardiac conditions. 

“I have a long connection with Wonthaggi Hospital and I am grateful for the thanks and appreciation from the staff.”
