Korumburra ready for Santa, carols, shopping, and fun

CHRISTMAS arrives early in Korumburra with the Twilight Shopping and Family Fun Night boosting festive spirits and providing a chance to stock up on gifts on Thursday December 8.
Korumburra Business Association (KBA) is running the event, with the evening set to be even bigger than in 2021.

“After the huge success of last year's event we are doing it all again, but this time we will take in Commercial Street and along Bridge Street where we have quite a few member businesses,” KBA secretary Noelene Cosson said.

That includes the recently opened gift store ‘The Old Corner Post Office’.

The kids can look forward to a visit from Santa who will ditch his sleigh, arriving by fire truck while the team of reindeer enjoy a pre-Christmas rest.

It won’t be a snap visit from the North Pole resident, with St Nicholas staying on to give out treats.

Prizes are up for grabs, with Lucky Shopper draws held during the evening, with those who make a purchase in Korumburra that day encouraged to enter at the KBA table.

There will be 20 local shopping voucher prizes given away to the winners during the evening, totalling over $1,000 in giveaways, with draws taking place at 6.30pm, 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
Youngsters can test their treasure hunting skills, with a giveaway for participants and two overall winner prizes.

A couple of guessing competitions will add to the fun.

Some retailers have their own competitions and discounts, so don’t miss the chance to make a saving or celebrate a win.

Buskers will be spread along the streets, ensuring attendees are kept entertained and the atmosphere is vibrant as they wander.

South Gippsland Concert Band will be playing Christmas carols.

In addition to food on offer from local businesses, the Lions Club will run a barbecue, with the Scouts running a sausage sizzle and selling Fairy Floss.

Lions Club members will also be selling Christmas Cakes and raffle tickets, with the latter putting you in the running for a Gourmet Food Christmas Hamper to be drawn on the night.

KBA’s Noelene outlined how the Twilight Shopping & Family Fun Night is made possible and its value to the community.

“This event is funded by the membership fee paid by our members, and the evening gives people an opportunity to browse our retail stores outside normal trading hours and enjoy the Christmas spirit while eating and shopping locally,” Noelene said.

She stressed the importance of spending locally and supporting the town’s small business operators.

“Imagine our shopping area if we as a community were not prepared to support what makes Korumburra the beautiful, unique, quirky and friendly place it is,” Noelene said.

“Think local, think small business this Christmas as they are all depending on it and will appreciate your support.”
Korumburra’s Twilight Shopping and Family Fun Night runs from 4.30pm until 9pm on Thursday December 8.
